The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) today firmly denied reports circulating on social media and in some media outlets alleging an encroachment by Thai forces into Cambodian territory in Thma Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
In a press release issued by the 5th Military Region, the command responsible for the area dismissed the claims, stating, “The land clearance activities are in Thailand.”
The statement emphasized that the RCAF forces stationed in the area are maintaining a vigilant and firm position to protect the nation.
“Cambodian forces continue to maintain a firm stand to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity,” the release affirmed.
The 5th Military Region urged the public to disregard misinformation and refrain from sharing unverified claims regarding the border situation.
The press release underscored that the process of border demarcation and the placement of border posts fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).
This authority was recently reaffirmed during the first meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on September 10, 2025.
The statement also highlighted the strong legal and institutional framework shared by both Cambodia and Thailand for peacefully addressing border issues. This framework relies on technical measures and references the 1/200 000 scale map from the 1904 and 1907 treaties. It further noted that a total of 74 border poles have been jointly recognized and reaffirmed in the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU2000).
