Cambodian PM Says the Royal Government Is Quiet, But Not Silent on Border Issues

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet this morning reaffirmed that the Royal Government is quiet but not silent, stressing that it has been actively working to achieve a ceasefire and peace in the border dispute with Thailand.

“Cambodia has no intention of violating the sovereignty or territorial integrity of any other country. At the same time, Cambodia will also not allow anyone to do so against us. This is the principle,” he underlined at the inauguration ceremony of Techo International Airport in Kandal province.

To this end, Samdech Thipadei outlined three key approaches of the Royal Government. The first is to prevent the conflict from spreading to other areas. The second is to employ all methods and explore every possible means to end the conflict that causes serious destruction. The third is to restore relations.

“These are the main approaches to ending the conflict,” the Prime Minister emphasised. “We maintain quietness (restraint) to minimise problems and reduce the loss of lives, both soldiers and civilians, as well as damage to property, while seeking to restore the situation.”

“If we don’t end the conflict, it’s not the leaders or the people in the city who die, but the soldiers and the people in the conflict zone,” he continued.

Ending the conflict is therefore an important goal of Cambodia, he said, expressing hope that a peace agreement will be concluded in the near future.
