Cambodian PM Praises Malaysia’s Active Role in Cambodia-Thailand Border Dispute

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held a telephone conversation this afternoon with H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and ASEAN Chair 2025, during which he expressed his deep appreciation for Malaysia’s continued active role in addressing the ongoing Cambodia-Thailand border conflict.

“This afternoon, I had a telephone discussion with His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia. We discussed the continued pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the Cambodia–Thailand border conflict. I expressed my sincere thanks to His Excellency Anwar for continuing to play an important and active role in facilitating and seeking a peaceful resolution between Cambodia and Thailand,” he wrote in a social media post.

Samdech Thipadei also reaffirmed Cambodia’s continued commitment to resolving the border issues through peaceful means, using the existing mechanisms and agreed principles—especially in line with the spirit of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration of Oct. 26, 2025—in order to bring an end to the conflict and build peace between the two countries.

The discussion followed a serious incident on Nov. 12, when Thai military forces opened fire on innocent Cambodian civilians in Prey Chan village, O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, killing one person and injuring three others.

Cambodia strongly condemns this inhumane and brutal act, which clearly violates Cambodia’s sovereignty, international law, the UN Charter, and the ASEAN Charter—particularly the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration signed by the Prime Ministers of Cambodia and Thailand under the witness of H.E. Donald Trump, President of the United States, and H.E. Anwar Ibrahim.
