Cambodia’s Senior Minister Calls for Enhanced Global Cyber-Security Cooperation


Cambodia’s commitment to combating cyber fraud was strongly reaffirmed by Senior Minister H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, who also chairs the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS).

Speaking during a high-level meeting here on Nov. 19 with Mr. Niu Haifeng, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of China’s Ministry of Public Security, H.E. Santepundit Sinarith underscored the Royal Government’s determination and significant political will to crack down on these crimes, noting that recent operations have yielded tangible and decisive results.

H.E. Senior Minister emphasised that trust-based cooperation with international partners is critical to effectively addressing this complex and global challenge. He stressed that strengthened coordination remains essential for achieving shared objectives in the fight against cybercrime and technology-based fraud.

In response, Mr. Niu Haifeng commended the Cambodian authorities for their swift and effective cooperation in recent joint operations. This praise specifically highlighted the successful arrest and repatriation of Chinese nationals and the secure handover of key evidence crucial for supporting ongoing investigations and legal procedures in China. Mr. Niu Haifeng also lauded the establishment of Cambodia’s CCOS.

Created under the direct leadership of the Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, the commission was credited with achieving notable progress in a short period following the issuance of nationwide directives.

Both senior officials concluded the meeting by discussing concrete next steps to deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation. This includes focused capacity-building initiatives and mutual experience-sharing, all with the shared strategic goal of enhancing the overall effectiveness of cross-border efforts to combat technology-based fraud.
