Thai Forces Continue to Target Cambodian Sacred Cultural Sites

Thai military forces have continued their aggressive attacks on Cambodian sacred cultural sites, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of National Defence.

The Ministry reported that the latest attack began at 04:40 a.m. on Dec. 11, when Thai forces shelled the area surrounding Khnar Temple in Oddar Meanchey province.

It added that Cambodian forces have been fiercely resisting the advancing Thai units and remain steadfast in their duty to defend Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Since Dec. 7, the Thai military has renewed its attacks on Cambodian territory and expanded operations across multiple locations in Preah Vihear, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Battambang, and Pursat provinces. These operations have included the use of heavy weapons, F-16 fighter jets, and toxic gas, resulting in civilian casualties, damage to homes, temples, and health centers, the temporary closure of hundreds of schools, and the displacement of thousands of civilians. Cambodia has stated that it was compelled to respond in self-defence to repeated violations of its territorial integrity after exercising more than 24 hours of maximum restraint.
