Thai Military Launches Another Attack on Prey Chan Village

Thai forces launched additional shelling into the area of Prey Chan village, O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, where civilians reside.

The attack occurred at 07:52 a.m. on Dec. 11, according to a press release issued this morning by the Ministry of National Defence.

“The above actions are brutal and constitute an indiscriminate attack by the Thai military, representing a serious violation of international humanitarian law,” the Ministry stressed.

The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) reaffirmed its commitment to the Royal Government’s policy of seeking peaceful resolution to border issues, while steadfastly defending Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The RCAF continues to respect all ceasefire arrangements and prioritises the protection of civilian lives.

Since Dec. 7, the Thai military has renewed its attacks on Cambodian territory and expanded operations across multiple locations in Preah Vihear, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Battambang, and Pursat provinces. These operations have included the use of heavy weapons, F-16 fighter jets, and toxic gas, resulting in civilian casualties, damage to homes, temples, and health centers, the temporary closure of hundreds of schools, and the displacement of thousands of civilians. Cambodia has stated that it was compelled to respond in self-defence to repeated violations of its territorial integrity after exercising more than 24 hours of maximum restraint.
