Cambodia’s National Assembly President, Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, has called on the nation to transform the “pain of foreign aggression” into a catalyst for economic independence and national development following recent sovereignty incursion.
Speaking during a donation ceremony on Friday, the house speaker addressed Cambodian youth and the private sector, urging them to channel nationalistic sentiment into academic and professional excellence rather than despair.
“In these difficult times, we must not succumb to the situation,” she said. “We must study harder, expand our production chains, and join the Royal Government in accelerating the country’s progress. Let us turn our current pain into national strength and resilience.”
The remarks come amid a fragile ceasefire following recent territorial friction along the Cambodian-Thai border. While diplomatic mechanisms are underway, Samdech Khuon Sudary emphasised that economic self-reliance is the ultimate safeguard of national sovereignty. She encouraged local investors to substitute imports with home-grown products to ensure Cambodia remains “independent and self-reliant in all sectors.”
The National Assembly President made the comments while receiving a humanitarian contribution from donor. The donation, which included funds, rice, and essential supplies, is destined for frontline troops and internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the border tensions.
Despite the current ceasefire, Samdech Sudary noted the ongoing need for logistical and moral support for military families. She reiterated the Royal Government’s commitment to a “silent but active” diplomatic strategy.
“Cambodia maintains its full right to resolve border issues with the Thai side in accordance with international law, treaties, and existing bilateral mechanisms,” she stated.
Samdech Khuon Sudary also expressed gratitude for the public’s trust in the leadership of Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet. She assured citizens that the administration remains firm in defending territorial integrity “down to the last millimetre” while facilitating the safe and dignified return of displaced residents to their homes.
Donations collected by the National Assembly are being distributed across border provinces, including Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, and Koh Kong, with specific allocations for hospitalised soldiers and the families of fallen soldiers.
