Cambodia and China held the first meeting of the “2+2” Strategic Dialogue Mechanism between their Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Ministers of National Defence, marking a new step in strengthening bilateral relations and strategic cooperation.
This inaugural meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Phnom Penh on the afternoon of April 22.
According to the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, the presence of Chinese Foreign Minister H.E. Wang Yi and Chinese Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun reflected the importance both sides place on high-level strategic communication and mutual trust.
The Ministry said the meeting further advanced Cambodia-China relations as comprehensive strategic partners and “ironclad friends,” while supporting efforts to build a Cambodia-China community with a shared future in the new era.
Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening and expanding cooperation with China across all sectors and reiterated its firm adherence to the One-China principle.
During the talks, the Chinese side also expressed support for Cambodia’s military sector by promoting cooperation and modernisation efforts aimed at enhancing the country’s national defence foundation, including maritime, land, and air defence capabilities.
