CDC Pledges Faster, Transparent Reforms to Boost Cambodia’s Business Climate

The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has pledged a wave of rapid internal reforms designed to sharply improve the nation’s business environment, ensure robust investment protection, and tackle private sector hurdles with high transparency.

The remarks were made by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and CDC First Vice Chairman, at the closing ceremony of the 2nd Public-Private Sector Breakfast Briefing held here on June 4.

The event was hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (AmCham) under the direction of the CDC.

The 2nd Public-Private Breakfast Briefing was attended by H.E. Say Samal, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction; H.E. Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy and Third Vice Chairman of the CDC; and H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training.

The event also welcomed various ambassadors and diplomatic representatives to the Kingdom of Cambodia, including H.E. Ambassador of the European Union, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United States and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan.

In addition to high-ranking officials and diplomatic representatives, the briefing brought together leaders from prominent international chambers of commerce and business associations – who serve as key economic actors – including AmCham, EuroCham, CCCC (China), KOCHAM (Korea), and JBAC (Japan), alongside numerous members from related institutions.

The programme proceeded smoothly according to the scheduled agenda, featuring presentations on several relevant topics and opening the floor for discussion.

This provided a valuable opportunity for an interactive and cordial exchange of views, allowing representatives of business associations, international investors, and development partners to directly voice their requests and inputs.

Following the active discussion, the agenda proceeded to setting next steps and monitoring work operations to ensure that all inputs and discussion outcomes will be effectively implemented and followed up.

To conclude the programme, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister delivered insightful closing remarks, reaffirming the strong commitment of the Royal Government and the CDC to continue reforming the business environment, facilitating investment protection, and addressing private sector challenges in a timely and highly transparent manner.
In particular, he sharply highlighted the CDC’s internal reform plans aimed at enhancing the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the institution’s core operations.

Furthermore, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister expressed his high commitment to bringing all key comments and inputs raised during the morning briefing into further consultations with all relevant stakeholders, aiming to find appropriate and win-win solutions for all parties.

H.E. Sun Chanthol also expressed his pleasure, optimism, and high expectations for further fruitful achievements to be discussed in the upcoming 3rd Public-Private Breakfast Briefing.

The atmosphere of the 2nd Public-Private Sector Breakfast Briefing was conducted in a spirit of cordiality, mutual understanding, openness, and productivity.

This serves as a vital foundation for obtaining accurate indicators to inform policy formulation and to develop the national investment climate, making it more prosperous and highly competitive in the region.
