A high-level delegation from the National Assembly of Cambodia is participating in the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) Annual Conference today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Led by H.E. Dr. Lork Kheng, Chairwoman of Commission 8, Permanent Vice President of CAPPD, and Vice President of AFPPD, the delegation represents Cambodia under the mandate of National Assembly President Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary. Centered on the theme “Parliamentary Leadership for the Future,” the regional gathering brings together more than 100 parliamentarians from 22 countries across the Asia-Pacific and Africa to address pressing demographic shifts and advance inclusive, sustainable development.
During the conference, the Cambodian delegation engaged in strategic exchanges to strengthen policy and legal frameworks supporting the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action and the UN 2030 Agenda.
Plenary sessions prioritised AFPPD’s four core pillars: advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, investing in youth, promoting active aging, and addressing climate change impacts.
The opening ceremony featured welcoming remarks from high-level international leaders, including Malaysian Senate President Hon. Dato’ Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, Japanese MP and AFPPD Chair Hon. Kamikawa Yoko, and UNFPA Deputy Executive Director Pio Smith.
