The Royal Government of Cambodia is working hard to prevent and mitigate climate change, especially through the promotion of lower carbon emissions.
The note was highlighted by H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, in his key note address at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), held in Dubai, United Arab Emirate (UAE), from Nov. 30 to Dec.12, 2023.
With the effort, Cambodia has called off a 700MW coal-power plant project, replacing it with the LPG power plant, and will aim for 1,000MW hydropower generation before 2028.
Cambodia will promote renewable energy through solar, hydropower, and wind by 70 percent.
The minister also underlined the government’s solid contribution to the universal declaration on sustainability of the food system, agriculture sector, and climate change response, as well as plastic use, through a participatory national campaign.
The COP28 attracted the participation of delegates from 120 countries.
