Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister of Cambodia, has expressed his congratulations to the 68th anniversary of Cambodia’s membership in the United Nations.
“Congratulations on the 68th anniversary of Cambodia’s accession to the UN (Dec. 14, 1955 – Dec. 14, 2023). UN is the largest international organisation in the world, established on Oct. 24, 1945, after the end of World War II (1939 -1945),” he wrote in a message on his official Facebook page this morning.
The aim of UN is to maintain international peace and security, promote international cooperation under international law, develop the economy, intervene in dispute resolution between member states, and avoid world wars, he said.
“Cambodia has been actively involved in peacekeeping and stabilisation operations, and, our country has so far sent abroad many blue helmet troops, both women and men,” he underlined.
According to the Samdech Techo Hun Sen, current President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, Cambodian peacekeepers have been deployed to Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Central Africa, Syria, Cyprus, Mali, etc.
The Cambodian blue helmet troops specialise in engineering, level 2 healthcare, mine clearance, gendarmerie, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and so on, he pointed out.
Recently, he stressed, Cambodia has become a leading country that provides opportunities for female blue helmet troops to participate in international missions under the UN umbrella.
