President of the Cambodian Senate, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, has lauded the contribution of ABA Bank, a subsidiary of the National Bank of Canada, to the promotion of digital commerce in Cambodia.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the appreciation while receiving a courtesy call from newly appointed Canadian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Ms. Ping M. Kitnikone, at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.
Considering Cambodia as a reliable partner of Canada, H.E. Ms. Ping M. Kitnikone is committed to further strengthening and expanding the relationship and cooperation between both countries during her diplomatic term, especially to further boosting bilateral trade and investment cooperation as well as to promoting quality investment of Canadian companies, including ABA and Manulife, in Cambodia.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated H.E. Ms. Ping M. Kitnikone on her appointment as Ambassador of Canada to Cambodia, and hoped that the bilateral ties between the two countries will be advanced to a new height during her diplomatic mission.
As Canada is a leading country supporting the “mine-free Cambodia 2025” goal, the senate president asked the Canadian side to support Cambódia’s hosting of the 5th Review Conference of the Mine Ban Convention – the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World –in late November this year in Siem Reap cultural province.
Both sides also discussed the Indo-Pacific Perspectives. Many countries, including the U.S. Canada, the EU, Japan, Australia, India, Korea, etc. have their own strategies in the Indo-Pacific region, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen, expressing Cambodia’s stance toward those strategies based on three principles: 1) actions that serve peace and development, 2) not to oppose any country or bloc that leads to conflicts in the region, and 3) any view must be in line with the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and the ASEAN Centrality.
Cambodia and Canada established their diplomatic relations in 1952, even before Cambodia gained independence from France.
