Ministry Pushes for Effective Water Resource and Irrigation Data Management

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and partners have organised a national workshop to gather insights to leverage water resources and irrigation infrastructure management.

Minister H.E. Thor Chetha presided over the opening of the workshop held in Phnom Penh on June 3, calling for comprehensive inputs.

Technical experts of the ministry, other relevant ministries and government institutions, provincial administrations, and development partners joined the discussion.

An up-to-date and accurate data management system for water resources and irrigation infrastructure will help strengthen a timely disaster alert system that will save lives, especially among the vulnerable, and reduce economic losses, said H.E. Thor Chetha.

It will, he added, also reduce the harmful effects of floods and droughts on agricultural activities in a way that is environmentally sustainable, supportive of the green economy, and responsive to climate change.

He thanked all stakeholders and partners, especially the Asian Development Bank, for supporting the discussion.
