World Post Day was celebrated in Cambodia this week with a focus on the postal sector’s crucial role in connecting communities and driving the digital economy, moving “From Local to Global.”
H.E. Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, presided over the main event on Oct. 9 at the Digital Technology Innovation Centre of the Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology.
The celebration, attended by approximately 300 participants, including ministry leaders, provincial officials, postal operators, private sector representatives, and university students, highlighted the sector’s strategic importance.
In his address, H.E. Chea Vandeth emphasised that the postal sector is no longer confined to traditional services but serves as a key driver for the development of e-commerce and broader socio-economic growth.
“The postal network plays a vital role in enabling rural communities and small-and medium-sized enterprises to access new markets and participate in the digital economy,” the Minister stated.
He urged postal operators to continue expanding their networks, modernising and diversifying services, and embracing digital transformation to ensure sustainability and meet evolving user expectations.
To further bolster the sector and promote e-commerce, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications announced plans to establish a Customs Bonded Warehouse at the Digital Park. This facility will allow goods sold online to be stored and efficiently distributed through the national postal network.
The ceremony also served as the official launch of the 130th Anniversary Celebration of Postal Services in Cambodia (1895–2025), inaugurated by Minister Chea Vandeth, marking a long history of service to the nation.
