TOP NEWS: Sam Rainsy Appointed as Acting President of the Dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party

Phnom Penh , Dec. 3 – Former opposition leader Sam Rainsy was appointed as Acting President of the dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP)at the Atlanta Conference held on 1-2 December, while Kem Sokha, the current President, was still under Cambodia’s judicial control.

Sokha’s supporters burst into rage after the conference reinstated Rainsy as the leader of the dissolved party.

CNRP members, including Kem Sokha’s daughters, and particularly CNRP-USA released a statement to oppose Sam Rainsy’s conference held in US’s Atlanta, Georgia.

“The organization of the Atlanta conference, held on 1-2 December, indicates that some supporters and leaders of CNRP have left and abandoned the party to join Sam Rainsy’s national rescue movement,” CNRP-USA wrote in the statement released on 30 November.
