Cambodia Continues To Promote Tourism Potential In Japan

The Ministry of Tourism, in cooperation with the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Japan, continued to promote Cambodia’s tourism potential in the Japanese market by organising the Cambodia Festival in Tokyo last weekend.

The event, held on May 3-4, attracted hundreds of thousands of people, according to the ministry.

The opening ceremony was chaired by H.E. Thong Khon, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, with the participation of H.E. Kenji Yamada, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Minister of Japan; H.E. Masahiro Imamura, Chairman of Japan-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship Group; H.E. Ung Rachana, Cambodian Ambassador to Japan; representatives of embassies of ASEAN member countries in Japan, and Cambodian and Japanese nationals.

The Cambodia Festival 2019 included many interesting programmes such as traditional dance, Lbok Kator (Khmer martial art) performance, a concert, and a cultural, tourism, commercial and food fair of 250 booths.

The Cambodia Festival has been organised annually in Japan since 2015. This year, the Festival took place as the two countries celebrate the 66th anniversary of their diplomatic relations and at the time that Japan entered the new imperial era of “Reiwa”.

Last year, Cambodia welcomed more than 6.2 million foreign tourists, of them over 210,000 were Japanese visitors, a year-on-year increase of 3.5 percent. For the first two months of this year, nearly 40,000 of the total 1.2 million international tourists visiting Cambodia were Japanese, up 3.1% over the same period of 2018.
