Cambodian Commerce Minister Attends Virtual Ministerial Meeting of LDCs


H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce of Cambodia, yesterday attended the virtual Ministerial Meeting of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to examine and approve the Statement of LDCs for the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference to be held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 03, 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The minister informed the meeting about the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC)’s principles to support multilateral trading system under the framework of WTO as Cambodia has gained many benefits through special treatment and this multilateral trading system in particular.
The Statement of LDC Ministers has set forth the principles and position of LDCs to all WTO members to consider and make decision on negotiations on prioritised topics of LDCs to enhance LDCs’ export to global markets.
H.E. Pan Sorasak hoped that the LDCs’ principles and position would be taken into thorough consideration by other members to get balance results and common interests for the LDCs and other members as well as the WTO.
Topics of Statement of the LDC ministers includes rules of origin, service exemption for LDCs, free quota and tariff, decision on LDC graduation, WTO’s membership, response to the global spread of COVID-19, subsidies in the fisheries sector, agricultural negotiations, special and particular treatment, reform of the WTO’s Appellate Body, e-commerce, trade facilitation agreement, and so on.
