Cambodia, Malaysia Appreciate Close Bilateral Cooperation


Cambodia and Malaysia have lauded their good friendship and close cooperation, especially between their parliaments, reflected through visit exchange, mutual support on international arenas, including ASEAN and UN frameworks.

The remarks were made by Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, President of the Senate of Cambodia and Prime Minister of Malaysia H.E. Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob, during their meeting at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh yesterday.

Samdech Say Chhum congratulated the people and Government of Malaysia on their achievements, considering Malaysia’s progress as the common progress of ASEAN, while H.E. Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob highly valued Cambodia’s development and its success in containing and preventing COVID-19.

The Cambodian senate president thanked Malaysia for its assistance to Cambodia in the fight against the pandemic and for its support for Cambodian human resource training and Cambodian Muslim community development.

Samdech Say Chhum agreed with the Malaysian Premier’s request to form a parliamentary friendship group for the interests of both countries and peoples.

For his part,. H.E. Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob underlined that Malaysia welcomes and fully supports Cambodia’s rotating chairmanship of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2022, and the two countries will work together to addressing common regional challenges.

The Malaysian Prime Minister paid an official visit to Cambodia on Feb. 23-24. During his stay in Phnom Penh, besides meeting with Samdech Say Chhum, he was granted a royal audience by His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, paid a courtesy call on Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly, and held a bilateral talk with Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.
