Cambodia is expected to receive at least one million foreign tourists this year and 2 million next year, said H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism.
Addressing to a recapitulative meeting here on Tuesday, H.E. Thon Khon said in the first six months of 2022, more than 500,000 international tourists visited Cambodia, a sharp increase by 394 percent compared to the same period in 2021.
But the figure decreased by 84.8 percent compared to the same period in 2019, he added.
“By easing conditions to be more flexible for international travellers, Cambodia is expected to receive more international tourists,” H.E. Thong Khon said.
In the first half of this year, domestic tourist movement was tracked at 6.33 million, a surge of about 219 percent, while the number of domestic foreign tourists was recorded at 0.68 million, up about 380 percent compared to the same period in 2021.
Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia’s economy. The country attracted up to 6.61 million international tourists in 2019, generating a gross revenue of US$4.92 billion, according to the Ministry of Tourism
