Cambodia’s Pig Raising Can Meet Domestic Demand

Domestic pig raising can sufficiently supply the local market, therefore the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has not allowed the import of pigs since the end of 2021.

The remarks were made by H.E. Tan Sophannara, Director General of the General Directorate of Animal Health and Production, during a press conference organised by the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit on Tuesday.

“The reason for not allowing pig import is because we have enough supply for the domestic market,” he explained.

The General Directorate of Animal Health and Production is now working closely with municipal and provincial agriculture departments and competent authorities to prevent illegal import of pigs from Vietnam, he said, adding that the illegally imported live pigs may contain African swine fever.
