Phnom Penh Builds Two More Flyovers to Mitigate Traffic Congestion


Two more flyovers will be built in Phnom Penh by Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC), a local construction company, with a total estimated cost of about US$46.77 million to ease travel and transport in the capital.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the two new flyovers took place this morning in Sangkat Chak Angre Leu, Khan Meanchey, under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

One of the flyovers will be constructed at the intersection between Samdech Techo Hun Sen Blvd., Preah Monivong Blvd. and RCAF Blvd. (Street 271), while the other at the intersection between the Russia Federation Blvd., Samdech Chaufea Veang Kong Sam Ol Blvd. (Street 2004) and Street 2011.

Speaking on the occasion, the Premier named the first flyover as Preah Monivong Flyover, while the second as Kong Sam Ol Flyover.

According to Phnom Penh Municipal Governor H.E. Khuong Sreng, the first one is a two-storey flyover whose construction would cost some US$36.77 million and last for 36 months.

The second flyover of 516 metres long and 15.80 metres wide would take 16 months for construction at a cost of US$10 million, it added.

Phnom Penh’s flyovers already in operation include the Kbal Thnal Flyover inaugurated on June 24, 2010; January 7 Flyover on Jan. 6, 2012; Stung Meanchey Flyover on July 31, 2014; January 5 Flyover on Jan. 5, 2016; Stop Psar Dey Hoy Flyover on July 2, 2018; and Chom Chao flyover on Mar. 31, 2022.

Another flyover of 483 metres long, 15.8 metres wide and 5 metres high has been being constructed along the National Road No. 5 in Sangkat Russey Keo, Khan Russey Keo.

Phnom Penh capital has currently over 500,000 cars and around 2 million motorbikes.
