Cambodia and U.S. Discuss Bilateral Defence Cooperation


The Kingdom of Cambodia and the United States of America have discussed their cooperation in national defence and security.

The discussion took place between Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence and visiting H.E. Lloyd J. Austin III, U.S. Secretary of Defence in Siem Reap province on Nov. 22, on the sidelines of the 9th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus).

Both sides acknowledged the importance of building a productive bilateral relationship that benefits the two countries and peoples, and welcomed efforts to build bilateral trust.

According to a press release of the U.S. Department of Defence, during the bilateral meeting, H.E. Lloyd J. Austin III welcomed Cambodia’s leadership as ASEAN Chair during a challenging year, as well as Cambodia’s support for United Nations General Assembly resolutions condemning Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.

The U.S. defence secretary also expressed appreciation for Cambodia’s willingness to send de-mining teams to train Ukrainian de-mining experts.
