Cambodia Supports Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairmanship Next Year


The Royal Government of Cambodia expressed its support to Lao PDR’s chairmanship of ASEAN next year, according to a press release from the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued this afternoon at the end of the two-day official visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen to Lao PDR.

“On regional and international cooperation, Samdech Techo expressed his deep appreciation to the Lao Government for her active support to Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2022 and reaffirmed Cambodia’s full support to the Laos’ Chairmanship of ASEAN 2024,” it pointed out.

During their bilateral talks, Cambodian and Lao Premiers also agreed to continue supporting each other in regional and international fora, particularly in ASEAN and the United Nations.

Lao PDR has became a member of ASEAN on July 23, 1997. Since then, Lao PDR hosted ASEAN Summits twice on Nov. 29-30, 2004, and on Sept. 6-8, 2016.
