The Royal Residence in Siem Reap province will be reconstructed soon, at the request of Samdech Chaufea Veang Kong Sam Ol, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Royal Palace, after one of its buildings was damaged due to a late-night blaze on Mar. 12.
The reconstruction plan was revealed by Her Majesty the Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk in a royal message dated Mar. 14 from Beijing, China where she and His Majesty the King have been undergoing a routine medical checkup.
The monarch took the opportunity to profoundly thank her compatriots and foreign friends who have sent messages to her personally and through social media expressing their regret over the unfortunate incident on the Royal Residence.
Her Majesty the Queen-Mother also expressed her gratitude to the leaders and officials of the Ministry of the Royal Palace, as well as local authorities, competent authorities, fire brigades, provincial council and administration for their immediate intervention.
The over-70-year-old Siem Reap Royal Residence has left great historical memories with the Royal Crusade for Independence (from France), launched by Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk, the late King-Father of Cambodia, after his campaign in France, Canada, the U.S., Japan and Thailand, she recalled.
According to a statement of the Ministry of Royal Palace released on Mar. 13, the fire, which broke out in a small building of the Royal Residence, was caused by an electrical short circuit.
The Royal Residence is located in Sangkat Svay Dangkum in Siem Reap provincial city, across the Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chorm Shrine.
