Cambodia, Laos Push for Cross-Border Facilitation to Promote Tourism

Cambodia and Laos have pushed for cross-border facilitation, especially for self-driving tourists to further promote the flow of tourists between the two countries, from China and from the third countries.

The intention was highlighted in a meeting between H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia and H.E. Mrs. Suanesavanh Vignaket, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Vientiane, Laos on Mar. 13.

H.E. Thong Khon and H.E. Mrs. Suanesavanh Vignaket emphasised that the facilitation of tourist flow is made possible through the potentials of Laos’ express railway and Cambodia’s Phnom Penh-Preah Sihanouk expressway.

The two sides also took stock of new infrastructures in the two countries which are potential tourism catalysts in the countries and across the region.

Cambodia is ready to ensure policy-level facilitation especially for the Vientiane-Phnom Penh-Preah Sihanouk direct flights, said H.E. Thong Khon.

Cambodia and Laos also agreed on organising joint events such as Cambodia-Laos Marathon cycling programme and food fair to cheer the 67th anniversary of Cambodia-Laos diplomatic relations.

On the same day, H.E. Thong Khon also met with Lao Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, Representative of the National Assembly of Laos for the City of Vientiane.
