With Cambodia’s noticeable antimalaria achievements, Cambodian Prime Minister called on continued collective effort to meet zero-malaria target by 2025.
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen made the call in his open letter to cheer the April 25 World Malaria Day released recently.
According to the Prime Minister, the Royal Government of Cambodia developed the National Strategic Plan for Elimination of Malaria 2011-2025 well aligned with the sustainable development goal framework toward 2023.
With that, he added, Cambodia put an end to antimalarial drug resistance in 2016 and ensure no death case of the disease since 2018 until now.
Malaria cases dropped from an average of over 110,000 (with around 500 deaths) in the decade before 2011 to 4,041 infection cases in 2022.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister thanked all health players for their sacrifice, hard work and cooperation to achieve such remarkable move against the disease.
The World Malaria Day 2023 was themed ‘Time to deliver zero malaria: invest, innovate, implement’.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen viewed the theme as a reminder for Cambodia to further promote the effectiveness of all-level anti-malaria activities to completely get rid of the disease by 2025.
He encouraged all stakeholders to continue the good work, especially through awareness building among the most vulnerable groups and easily accessible quality service free of charge for all.
