PM Continues Second Round of Visit to Factory Workers and Employees


Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning visited almost 20,000 workers and employees from 11 factories and enterprises in Khan Pursenchey of Phnom Penh capital.

According to H.E. Ith Samheng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, seven of the 11 factories and enterprises are garment factories, 3 are travel goods and bags factories, and 1 is a footwear factory. The products of these factories are exported to international markets such as the European Union, the United States, Canada and Japan.

As of 2023, Phnom Penh has a total of 9,314 factories and enterprises employing more than 660,000 workers and employees. Of the figures, there are 727 garment factories with over 338,000 workers and employees.

The Premier began the second round of his visit to factory workers at the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ) in Preah Sihanouk province with around 24,000 workers and employees.

Today is the 10th time for the second round with a total of some 180,000 workers. Samdech Techo Prime Minister is scheduled to conduct nine more times with about 150,000 workers.

The first round took place between August 2017 and May 2019 with 77 site visits to nearly one million workers across Cambodia, during which Samdech Techo Hun Sen has pushed thorough necessary measures to address the workers’ issues identified.
