Cambodia Paying High Attention to Minimising Trade Deficit

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to narrowing down the country’s trade deficit.

At a get-together with nearly 20,000 workers and employees from six factories and enterprises, held at Lecrown Shoes Industry Factory in Cheung Prey district, Kampong Cham province, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the total trade volume of Cambodia had been recorded at some US$52 billion, of which about US$29 billion were the country’s exports.

“We are committed to reducing the approximately US$4 billion of our trade deficit,” he underlined, calling on his compatriots to work together to maintain peace, social stability, trade and economic diversification.

The Premier said Cambodia had a lot of agricultural product surplus, such as rice, cashew nuts …, but we lack processing factories to add value to our produce.

Cambodia will continue to do its best to attract more investors to invest in agro-processing, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
