MOWRAM Warns of Possible Floods due to Rising Mekong Water Levels

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) this morning warned the public of possible floods due to rising Mekong water levels in the next few days, especially in the northern part of the country.

In its new weather forecast, the ministry said hat the water level would jump to 7.65 metres in Stung Treng province, 16.70 metres in Kratie province, and 9.90 metres in Kampong Cham province.

MOWRAM explained the phenomenon by the changing weather conditions due to the effects of low pressure system (ITCZ) causing heavy rainfall in the Mekong Basin.

Anyway, it added, the rising water levels are not yet at the alert level, but some lowland areas along the river may be flooded.

MOWRAM thus called on the public to increase their vigilance to avoid any possible danger.
