H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith, President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP), has emphasised Laos’ support for the new Royal Government of Cambodia led by H.E. Dr. Hun Manet.
The Lao leader voiced the support in a conversation via Videoconference this morning with Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, outgoing Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and President of Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), according to the CPP’s press release made public after the virtual meeting.
The LPRP general secretary also extended congratulations to the CPP for its landslide victory during the July National Assembly Election and to H.E. Dr. Hun Manet for his nomination by His Majesty the King as the new Prime Minister of Cambodia on Aug. 7.
H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith is convinced that new Royal Government will continue to develop Cambodia to be more prosperous and is determined to continue strengthening the good relations between the two parties, peoples and governments.
In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith for the congratulations and support for CPP and the new Royal Government, reflecting the strong fraternity and solidarity as well as the long-term and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two neighbouring nations.
The CPP president lauded the remarkable achievements attained by the Lao people under the leadership of the LPRP, which has brought continuous progress in socio-economic development to Laos and enhanced the country’s prestige and role in both regional and international forums.
Both leaders spoke highly of the fruitful cooperation between the two parties and governments and stressed the significance of strengthening the close friendship, strong solidarity, mutual assistance, and cooperation in all domains, particularly the importance of training young people to maintain and foster the good and long-lasting relationship between the two countries.
They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations and ASEAN, and to continue promoting closer cooperation in the sub-regional framework, particularly the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam framework and Mekong Sub-Region cooperation, which will contribute to regional and global peace, stability and prosperity.
For the ASEAN framework, the two leaders expressed their congratulations on the ASEAN Day celebration on Aug. 8. Taking this opportunity, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s full support for Laos as the Chair of ASEAN in 2024.
