His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, is convinced that the new Royal Government of Cambodia will continue to boost the country’s economic growth and improve the people’s living standards.
“I firmly believe that the new Royal Government of Cambodia, which will receive the vote of confidence from the National Assembly (NA), will continue promoting the economic growth, improving the people’s living standards, developing and strengthening the social protection system covering all citizens, furthering the preservation and sustainable development of culture to ensure the strong existence of national identity, promote socio-economic development along with the enhancement of morality for the social harmony,” said His Majesty the King while presiding over the inaugural session of the 7th legislature of NA, held at the NA Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.
The monarch congratulated the newly-elected lawmakers and expressed his optimism that the 7th legislature of NA will fulfill its duties and responsibility for the supreme benefit of the people and the nation.
The NA Members, as representatives of the entire Cambodian nation, must make every effort to help people live equally in terms of religious belief, education, employment according to their ability and education, he said.
Besides, His Majesty the King called for strong national unity and solidarity based on the spirit of national unification.
The inaugural session was attended by the newly-elected l25 lawmakers, foreign ambassadors accredited to Cambodia and national and international distinguished guests.
The newly-elected lawmakers will be sworn-in at the Royal Palace this afternoon, after they decide the validity of each member’s mandate and adopt the NA’s internal regulation for the 7th legislature. The structure of the NA and the new government will be decided tomorrow.
In the National Election on July 23, 2023 with the participation of 18 political parties, the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won 120 NA seats, while the royalist FUNCINPEC Party got the 5 remaining seats.
Among the newly-elected lawmakers, there are 16 women. The eldest lawmaker is 89 years old, while the youngest is 37 years old.
In the 6th National Election on July 29, 2018 with the participation of 20 political parties, CPP got all the 125 NA seats.
