PM Speaks Highly of Cambodian Demining Operators’ Sacrifice


Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifice of Cambodian mine clearance operators for the safety of the citizens.

“Your mission is very valuable because one landmine that you clear means you save a life of our fellow citizens,” the Premier said while presiding over the inauguration ceremony of new administration office building of Kampong Speu province and attached achievements in Chbar Mon city this morning together with the declaration of Kampong Speu as a landmine-free province.

Samdech Thipadei added that not only lives are saved, but land is also liberated from landmines for agricultural use and other development purpose to improve the people’s livelihoods.

Kampong Speu is the 13th province to gain the mine-free status. The other 12 are the provinces of Stung Treng, Kep, Prey Veng, Preah Sihanouk, Thbong Khmum, Kampong Cham, Svay Rieng, Kampong Chhnang, Kandal, Takeo and Kampot, and Phnom Penh capital.

Samdech Thipadei took the opportunity to reiterate the Royal Government’s commitment to achieve the goal of a landmine-free Cambodia by 2025, on the initiative of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister.

Besides, Samdech Thipadei expressed his pride of Cambodian mine clearance forces in their UN missions abroad. “We are very proud of our Cambodia. We have not only been demining here ourselves, we have also been sending our forces to help clear landmines in many countries under the UN umbrella,” he said.
