Cheering the Cambodian Editors Forum on Dec. 21, Cambodian Prime Minister has called on all journalists to carry out their professional roles and ethics.
The Prime Minister, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, made the call in his recent open letter to mark the 20th Cambodian Editors’ Forum.
It is essential for the media to bridge the information gap between the government and the public by disseminating new policies and reporting fact-based social issues so that the government can timely address them, wrote the Prime Minister.
Another important role of the media is to contribute to educating the public, for example, on road safety and the dangers of illicit drug use.
He also encouraged the media to fight against fake news and disinformation that pollutes society and hampers national stability and social order.
To address this, he added, all the media must adhere to professional ethics, balancing well their sources of information, reporting facts, and continuously sharpening their capacity.
The Editors’ Forum, he added, is therefore a very crucial platform to discuss the mentioned issues and find ways to promote ethical and professional journalism in Cambodia.
