Cambodia and India held the Second Meeting of Working Group on Trade and Investment (2nd JWGTI) in New Delhi on June 19 to review mechanisms to further foster their economic, trade and investment ties.
The Cambodian side was headed by H.E. LONG Kemvichet, Director-General of the General Department of International Trade, and the Lead of the JWGTI, while the Indian side by H.E. Siddharth Mahajan, Joint-Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
According to the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, the meeting was organised to monitor the progress of the implementation of the minutes of the First Meeting held online in July 2022 and to exchange views on mechanisms for strengthening and expanding economic, trade, and investment relations between Cambodia and India, focusing on key topics such as cooperation in increasing bilateral trade volume, facilitation of cross-border payments between Cambodia and India, signing of bilateral investment treaties, cooperation in the field of health and medicine, cooperation on electronic governance (E-Governance), and cooperation on customs matters.
On the occasion, the Cambodian side also provided updates to the Indian side on investment opportunities in Cambodia and technical regulations for the automotive sector, and requested that the Indian side start the procedures for negotiating the preferential trade agreement.
The Cambodian delegation was composed of representatives of Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Post and Telecommunication, Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, Council for the Development of Cambodia, National Bank of Cambodia, and General Directorate of Customs and Excises of Cambodia.
