Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and his spouse, Lok Chumteav Dr Pich Chanmony this morning released some 1,5 million fishes and other aquatic animals to natural habitat.
The fish release ceremony was held as part of the celebration of the 19th National Fisheries Day at Boeung Thom in Kampong Samnanh villager, Mean commune, Prey Chhor district, Kampong Cham province.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet called on all stakeholders to continue to release fish and preserve all flooding forests and take legal action against any form of illegal fishing.
For his part, H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said the ministry through the Fisheries Administration always pays close attention to the sustainable management and development of fisheries resources by maintaining a balance between conservation and development.
The ministry has been taking strict legal action against fishing offenses and the production and distribution of fishing gears that cause serious damage to fisheries resources, promote the movement to release fish species and endangered fish, he underlined.
Cambodia annually marks the National Fisheries Day on July 1 since 2003 to inspire the people across the country to take part in the sustainable preservation and development of fisheries resources in order to increase the fisheries stocks to meet the daily need, ensure food security, and support the people’s livelihoods.
