A total of 244 troops, including 36 female ones, from Multi-Role Engineering Unit 468 have been deployed to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
A solemn send-off ceremony for this latest contingent of Cambodian UN peacekeepers heading to the Central African Republic was held at the Training School for Multinational Peacekeeping Forces in Kampong Speu province under the presidency of Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Coordination Committee for the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, H.E. SOK Chenda Sophea.
In his address, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister conveyed heartfelt regards from Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia who closely monitors the contributions of Cambodian forces to global peacekeeping. He praised the troops’ dedication and readiness, highlighting Cambodia’s growing reputation for excellence in UN humanitarian missions.
“Cambodia takes great pride in our Blue Helmet peacekeepers,” H.E. SOK Chenda Sophea said. “Your bravery and commitment not only bring honour to our nation but also play a crucial role in fostering global peace, stability, and security.”
Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea underscored the importance of the mission, noting the complex and challenging environment in the Central African Republic. He urged the peacekeepers to remain vigilant, prioritise their safety, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and solidarity. He also emphasised strict adherence to UN protocols to ensure the success and integrity of their mission.
“This deployment is part of Cambodia’s longstanding commitment to international peacekeeping efforts. Over the years, Cambodian troops have been recognised for their effectiveness and dedication in various UN missions worldwide, reflecting the Royal Government’s unwavering support for international peace and security initiatives,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in a press release last night.
The representative of the United Nations and senior military officials attended the event as well.
