Halo Trust has highly appreciated the strong leadership of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) in managing and coordinating mine action across Cambodia.
The appreciation was made by Mr. Miles Hawthorn, Director of Halo Trust in Cambodia, when he paid a visit to H.E. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of CMAA, in Phnom Penh on July 25, at the end of his mission to Cambodia.
Mr. Hawthorn thanked CMAA for its support, partnership and close cooperation with Halo Trust in the framework of humanitarian mine action programme in Cambodia, through which the British NGO has been part of the Kingdom’s success in mine action over the past 30 years.
For his part, H.E. Ly Thuch extended his deep gratitude to Halo Trust for its contribution to mine clearance in Cambodia since 1991. More than 511 square kilometres of land contaminated by mines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) have been cleared by Halo Trust, and 322,015 anti-personnel mines, 5,117 anti-tank mines, 219,571 ERW and more than 1.5 million rounds of small arms ammunition have been discovered and destroyed, he said.
The senior minister also expressed thanks to Halo Trust Cambodia’s partners including Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Ireland and the HDR&D programme, and all deminers for risking their lives to provide safe land for and save the Cambodian people.
Mr. Tobias Wehitt will succeed Mr. Miles Hawthorn as the Director of Halo Trust in Cambodia.
