Commerce Minister Highlights Significant Growth of Cambodia’s E-Commerce and Digital Trade


Cambodian Minister of Commerce H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul has noted that the e-commerce and digital trade sectors in Cambodia are currently experiencing significant growth following the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the dynamism and resilience of the country’s economy.

The sectors are driven by innovative entrepreneurs, a young population, and an increasing level of digital interconnectedness, underlined the minister while presiding over the opening ceremony of the workshop on “Cambodia’s Digital Economy and Engagement with E-DISC (ERIA Digital Innovation and Sustainable Economy Centre),” held here at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh this morning.

The Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia has introduced the Cambodia Digital Economy and Society Framework 2021-2035 and the Cambodia Digital Government Policy 2022-2035 with the objective of utilising digital technology to enhance societal and economic efficiency that this administration has established five goals based on these frameworks: (1). digital government and citizens; (2). digital economy, business, e-commerce, and innovation system; (3). digital infrastructure; (4). digital system trustworthiness; and (5). financial technology, she added.

To leverage the potential of the digital revolution through the E-DISC, in this workshop as well as in future participation, H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul recommended all stakeholders to improve their collective comprehension of the digital ecosystems in Cambodia and other ASEAN countries; promote policy innovation that facilitates the growth and development of the industries and firms in the digital economy; address the challenges that business owners face through practical initiatives by applying the knowledge and skills gained from this workshop, thereby adapting to broader digital economic ecosystems.

H.E. Minister expressed her sincere appreciation to ERIA for organising an insightful discussion focused on the future of Cambodia’s digital economy and how the country can effectively utilise the resources available at the ERIA Digital Innovation and Sustainable Economy Centre (E-DISC) to leverage the potential of digital technologies for trade and economic enhancement in Cambodia.
