Cambodia and Thailand have agreed on new measures to better facilitate Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand.
The agreement was reached in a bilateral meeting between H.E. Heng Suor, Cambodia’s Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, and H.E. Phipat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour of Thailand, on the margin of the 28th ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Meeting in Singapore on Oct. 30.
The improved mechanisms include the exemption of re-entry permits for Cambodian workers when they return to Thailand after their home visit for the Khmer New Year.
Cambodian workers are also allowed to renew their work permits and to stay for two more years in Thailand for those who have expired visas by Feb. 13, 2025.
The Thai side will consider Cambodia’s request to conduct testing to identify skills of the Cambodian migrant workers so as to certify them.
Moreover, Cambodian workers in Thailand can receive similar benefits to Thai workers from the Thai social security fund, which will be linked to Cambodia’s scheme.
The two ministries will also promote the use of IT systems to manage the process of deploying and accepting Cambodian workers in Thailand.
