The First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action Authority (CMAA) has highly valued the long-standing U.S. contribution to Cambodia’s demining activities and urged more U.S. support.
Senior Minister H.E. Ly Thuch shared his remarks and made the request in a meeting with Ms. Bridgette L. Walker, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the United States Embassy in Cambodia, at the CMAA office on Nov. 5.
Highlighting the efforts and key achievements in demining activities of the Royal Government of Cambodia through the support from development partners, the CMAA president emphasised that the U.S. has been the largest contributor to humanitarian work for over 30 years.
He encouraged the U.S. to continue supporting the activities, especially with the clearance of cluster munitions, provision of demining equipment and bulletproof vests, and technical training.
Ms. Bridgette L. Walker congratulated Cambodia on its 2024 presidency for the Ottawa Convention as well as the country’s contribution to the implementation of the mine-free treaty and remarkable achievements in mine clearance work.
She vowed to continue maintaining close cooperation with Cambodia and supporting the clearance of landmines and explosive remnants of war in the country.
