The Global Fund is committed to supporting Cambodia’s fight against malaria.
The commitment was highlighted by a visiting delegation from the Global Fund, led by Ms. Rosie Ameyan, Senior Program Officer for the Mekong River Region Malaria Elimination Project, during her meeting with Secretary of State at Cambodia’s Ministry of Health H.E. Dr. Youk Sambath early this week.
Ms. Rosie Ameyan congratulated Cambodia on its rapid progress in malaria elimination progress and that her team will finance the endeavour through its Regional Artemisinin-Resistance Initiative (RAI) project.
Thanking the Global Fund, H.E. Dr. Youk Sambath highlighted Cambodia’s achievements, noting that the country has had zero malaria-related deaths since 2018 and has significantly reduced malaria cases.
She underscored the ministry’s commitment to eliminating malaria by 2025 and ensuring a malaria-free Cambodia by 2029.
The National Centre for Parasitology, Entomology, and Malaria Control (CNM), she added, is preparing a national malaria-free strategic plan for 2027-2035 to achieve the set target.
