MISTI, Infrastructure Asia Discuss Technical, Financial Solutions for Green Industry, Clean Water Infrastructure Development

H.E. HEM Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, received at the ministry on Mar. 11 a delegation from Singapore-based Infrastructure Asia to discuss technical and financial solutions to support Cambodia’s green industry initiatives, industrial waste management, and water supply projects.

According to the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, during the meeting, H.E. HEM Vanndy highlighted Cambodia’s commitment to the green agenda, citing initiatives such as the Green Industry Awards and growing global expectations for environmentally responsible manufacturing.

He noted that Cambodia has continued to attract more factories, with some relocating their production bases to the country and adapting to sustainability demands, while others still leave large carbon footprints.

He asked Infrastructure Asia to form a consortium with Cambodia’s financial sector to mobilise investment for green technologies and solutions, starting with pilot projects in special economic zones and industrial parks.

Discussions also covered industrial waste management, with H.E. Minister stressing the need for a structured framework, clear policies, and dedicated infrastructure, particularly for hazardous waste.

Infrastructure Asia, currently working on a waste management proposal in the Philippines, was encouraged to explore similar initiatives in Cambodia.

On water supply, H.E. HEM Vanndy shared Cambodia’s progress in expanding access but noted challenges such as water source availability. He welcomed Infrastructure Asia’s expertise in financing water supply projects, urging them to consider Public-Private Partnership approaches to attract investment.
