H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, emphasised the importance of intellectual property (IP) registration in enhancing the value of Cambodian agricultural products during the World Intellectual Property Day 2025 celebration, held on May 5 in Siem Reap province.
The event, themed “Intellectual Property and Music,” was presided over by H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce and Chairperson of the National Committee for Intellectual Property (NCIP), and attended by H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, and H.E. Igor Driesmans, Ambassador of the European Union to Cambodia.
H.E. Dith Tina thanked the Ministry of Commerce for initiating the event, which he said helps raise greater public awareness of intellectual property rights globally.
In his remarks, the agriculture minister noted that intellectual property is a priority area for the ministry, particularly in the agricultural sector.
“By registering intellectual property for Cambodian plant varieties, our agricultural products can not only gain higher added value, but also encourage local processing and branding,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to development partners for supporting the promotion and protection of Cambodian agri-products, particularly geographically indicated (GI) products such as Kampot pepper, Kampong Speu palm sugar, and Koh Trong pomelo.
H.E. Dith Tina reaffirmed his strong support for the protection of Cambodian product IP and encouraged further development and value-added processing to enhance the competitiveness of Cambodian agricultural goods.
