After 16 hours and 25 minutes of deliberations on its opening day, the National Assembly-Senate Congress resumed this morning under the chairmanship of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate.
Today’s session will primarily focus on deliberating and approving matters related to the agricultural sector, following the adoption of two key draft resolutions on social protection systems and the informal economy during yesterday’s session.
This joint Congress between the National Assembly and the Senate represents an unprecedented event in the country’s legislative history.
The platform, organised at the request of Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, demonstrates the democratic process and the highest responsibility of the government to Cambodian people, who overwhelmingly elected the 7th legislature on July 23, 2023.
According to Cambodian law, a congress by the NA and Senate is convened when necessary or to resolve national issues, including those related to independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
