MOWRAM Appreciates ROK’s Support for Water and Meteorology Sector Development

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) has expressed its appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Korea (ROK), through Korea Eximbank, for being a key partner in the development of Cambodia’s water resources and meteorology sectors.

The appreciation was conveyed by H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of MOWRAM, during a farewell courtesy visit from Ms. Minnie Chey, Executive Director of Korea Eximbank in Cambodia, held this morning at the MOWRAM office, according to the ministry.

H.E. Thor Chetha stated that, over the past two decades, the ROK Government, through Korea Eximbank, has provided concessional loans and grants totaling around US$450 million to the Royal Government of Cambodia.

These funds, the minister continued, have supported MOWARAM in developing irrigation systems and water infrastructure to ensure water security in the country.

The source added that the Ministry has implemented and is currently carrying out seven projects financed by Korea Eximbank and has also proposed eight new projects to further develop the water resources sector in the provinces of Pailin, Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, and Pursat, including a plan to establish a National Institute for Hydro Research and Investigation in Phnom Penh.
