Ministry, WB Discuss Cooperation on Water Security Promotion in Cambodia

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and the World Bank (WB) have discussed cooperation and further investment to strengthen water security in Cambodia.

The discussion took place in a meeting between H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, and Mrs. Maria Angelica Sotomayor, Water Practice Manager for the East Asia and Pacific Region at the World Bank office in Phnom Penh on July 8.

H.E. Thor Chetha briefed the WB delegate that Cambodia’s Tonle Sap Lake is rich in biodiversity and wetland areas, so preserving the lake will secure water resources.

It also maintains food security and builds climate resilience, supporting local livelihoods, he added.

He requested the World Bank to help coordinate among development partners for a long-term investment, including through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach, to develop the Tonle Sap Lake to optimise its benefits.
