The United States applauds the ceasefire declaration between Cambodia and Thailand announced today in Kuala Lumpur, said H.E. Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State in a press statement on Monday.
“President Trump and I are committed to an immediate cessation of violence and expect the governments of Cambodia and Thailand to fully honor their commitments to end this conflict,” he added.
H.E. Marco Rubio also expressed his gratitude to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his leadership and for hosting the ceasefire talks.
“We urge all parties to follow through on their commitments,” read the statement. “The United States will remain committed to and engaged in this U.S.-Malaysia-organised process to end this conflict.
Following five days of armed clashes along the border, Cambodia and Thailand have now agreed to implement an immediate and unconditional ceasefire beginning at midnight tonight.
