Cambodia, Myanmar Strengthen Cooperation to Combat Online Scams


Cambodian Senior Minister H.E. Chhay Sinarith met with H.E. Kyaw Soe Min, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Cambodia, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against online scams and cybercrime and repatriation of Myanmar nationals detained during recent operations in Cambodia.
H.E. Chhay Sinarith, who also serves as Head of the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS), received the Myanmar Ambassador at his office in Phnom Penh on Aug. 21.
The Senior Minister briefed his guest on Cambodia’s efforts to tackle technology-driven fraud, highlighting the role of CCOS as a national mechanism designed to coordinate and direct anti-scam operations across all levels of government.
He emphasised that CCOS not only enhances domestic enforcement but also serves as a platform to foster bilateral and multilateral collaboration in combating cybercrime.
H.E. Kyaw Soe Min commended the Cambodian government’s strong commitment to eradicating online scams, noting that such preventive measures contribute significantly to national and regional stability.
He reaffirmed Myanmar’s dedication to fighting cybercrime and shared insights from Myanmar’s recent campaigns to suppress digital fraud.
The two sides expressed optimism about the future of their cooperation, agreeing that continued collaboration will facilitate investigations, address the root causes of cybercrime, and enhance the safety and security of citizens in both countries and the broader region.
