H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheatea, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, has once again reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm stance against the dissemination of false information.
“Cambodia absolutely does not support the dissemination, sharing, or production of fake news. Such actions not only fail to ease tensions and reduce negative impacts on public sentiment, but also hinder the creation of an environment conducive to further peaceful dialogue,” she underlined at a press briefing this morning.
The spokesperson recalled one of the 13 points agreed upon by Cambodia and Thailand at the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Aug. 7, which states: “Both sides agree to refrain from disseminating false information or fake news in order to de-escalate tensions, mitigate negative public sentiment, and foster an environment conducive to peaceful dialogue.”
While reiterating Cambodia’s stance to resolve border issues peacefully and in good faith — in line with international law, the UN Charter, and the ASEAN Charter — H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheatea also urged the Thai side to immediately release the 18 Cambodian soldiers who have been unlawfully detained since July 29, 2025, only a few hours after the ceasefire came into effect.
On the overall border situation, she said that from midnight to 6:00 a.m. today, the frontlines along Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, and Banteay Meanchey provinces remained calm, with no new developments reported. Nevertheless, Cambodian forces continue to maintain full vigilance in carrying out their duties.
